Philips SmartSleep Alarm Clocks: Choose the Exact Wake-Up Light

HF3520/60 and HF3650/60 offer sunrise light, sound, and controls on the clock. HF3670/60 adds a connected feature set, but Philips labels that model discontinued. Start with the model number and the functions you will use every night.

Which Philips model fits your bedside routine?

The meaningful upgrade is a function you need: a wind-down exercise, a particular control, or connected scheduling. An extra feature does not establish that a clock will wake you more reliably.

What each model changes

HF3520/60: sunrise and sound with local controls

Philips documents an adjustable 20–40-minute sunrise, 20 light-intensity settings, sunset simulation, and FM waking. Choose the ramp and sound as separate settings: a preferred brightness does not tell you whether the selected sound reaches your sleeping position.

The manual provides two wake-up profiles with separate alarm buttons. Rehearse enabling and disabling the right profile before relying on a weekday/weekend routine. The model number matters more than a listing that simply says “Philips sunrise alarm.”

HF3650/60: add evening and overnight controls

HF3650/60, previously called Somneo, adds light-guided RelaxBreathe and a dim orange Midnight Light. The manual describes local setup of two wake-up profiles, display timeout, and a choice of natural sound, radio, or no sound. These functions are useful when one bedside device must handle the evening and morning routine.

Keep the audio connections distinct. AUX is a listening input; USB is for charging. Neither connection turns your phone's music library into a scheduled wake-up source. Check the menus you will actually touch at night before choosing it for its broader feature list.

HF3670/60: identify the connected generation

Philips describes SleepMapper control and AmbiTrack measurements of bedroom temperature, humidity, light, and noise. Those features belong to HF3670/60; they should not be copied to HF3650/60 because the cases look similar or both use SmartSleep branding.

The official page marks HF3670/60 discontinued. Its documented feature list is useful for identifying a device, but does not confirm that an app can currently be installed or connected on your phone. Verify that separately before buying a used unit for its connected functions.

Check the room and the failure case

  • Placement: both linked manuals specify approximately 16–20 inches from your head. Check the actual nightstand position and the effect on another sleeper.
  • Power: distinguish saved time from a sounding alarm. The HF3650/HF3651 manual documents an internal clock and brief backup beep during a limited outage; the sunrise, display, and ordinary functions stop. Do not transfer that behavior to another model.
  • Wake signal: keep a separate fallback while finding suitable light and sound settings. A room-lighting preference is different from a dependable wake-up result.

Use the backup-power guide when outage behavior decides the purchase, or compare sunrise alarm clocks across brands when Philips controls do not fit.

Who should choose this route?

Consider HF3520/60 for a local light-and-sound routine. Investigate HF3650/60 when its evening programs and overnight controls will replace a separate bedside task. Use the HF3670/60 reference when identifying or maintaining that exact connected generation.

Choose another route if your first requirement is a wearable or bed-shaker alert, portable battery operation, or a signal confined to one side of the bed. Start with alarm types before comparing more wake-up lights.
